It's Not about the Cake or Pizza

Photography Prints
I’m sure we are all aware of the uproar created because a bakery refused to  bake a wedding cake or a pizza for a gay wedding because of religious convictions. First off, who has pizza at their wedding? But that is a whole different story.

It’s not about bigotry or being racist. It’s about religious freedom, our first amendment. Our Bill of Rights guarantees we won’t be discriminated against for exercising our freedom of speech or freedom of religion.

There is no correlation between refusing to cater to a gay wedding and being a bigot. You can still love and respect people without agreeing to everything they believe, say or do. It’s done all the time.

It’s called loving the person, but not always loving what they say, do or believe. We each have different values and they should be respected, regardless if we believe the same  or not.  For the gay community to not respect a person of faith’s values can also be interpreted as being bigoted and narrow-minded.

I’m not sure about the others, but the case in northern Indiana was a set-up. A news reporter asked several bakeries a question about catering to a gay wedding. She finally found the answer she wanted, and tried to further her career by taking advantage of someone’s personal values.

It was a hypothetical question, there was no gay couple that came in and asked for them to cater a gay wedding.

Even if there was, and the bakery decided not to cater the wedding, that is within their constitutional right. We cannot be discriminated against because of our religious beliefs. It has nothing to do with bigotry or racism. Whether you agree with them or not, it is their religious right, guaranteed by the constitution.

It wouldn’t be any problem finding a baker, florist, or photographer to cater the wedding. A few hard core radical people are making it hard on everyone, most people who are gay are just like everyone else. They just want to live the life they choose and not make life more difficult for either themselves or anyone else.

Besides, would you want someone baking a wedding cake who doesn’t believe as you do, just to make a point? Somehow marriage is about more than making a political statement.

There are several videos circulating online where the same question was asked of a Muslim baker and others, no uproar.

It is definitely an attack on Christians and their beliefs.

There was a time when we could pray in school and nothing was said, the same for religious displays in public. All that has changed.

In this day and age profanity is protected by our constitution, but religious values and principles are not. Common sense as described in my latest book has gone completely out the window.

If you believe the popular consensus of the public is correct on this matter and religious values mean nothing, what are you going to do when they come after your ministers, priests, nuns, and other spiritual advisors? Are you going to sit and watch?

There is an extreme shortage of common sense in today’s world, I often think back to what my parents and grandparents believed and said, at the time I thought they were totally out of their mind and ignored it. I now wish I would have listened and followed their advice more often.
It is in this light I have decided to publish some of my random thoughts based on the views of our ancestors.

Giving and Receiving

Found this somewhere

Our abilities to give and receive are at the core of our capacity to create and experience true prosperity.

We each receive certain gifts when we come into this life.  These gifts take the form of our special talents, interests, and attributes, as well as our universal human characteristics, such as our ability to love and care for one another.

When we do our best to live our truth and express ourselves as authentically as possible, sharing ourselves as we are genuinely moved to, we naturally give our gifts to others and to the world.

In return, we may receive acknowledgement, appreciation, validation, nurturing, love, and in certain circumstances, money or other material rewards.  Receiving in these ways allows us to replenish the life force we have “spent,” which in turn enables us to continue giving.

So receiving and giving are opposite energies that are inextricably linked together in the natural flow of life, like inhaling and exhaling.  If one aspect of that cycle doesn’t function, the entire cycle ceases to function and the life force cannot move freely.  If you can’t inhale, you will soon have nothing to exhale, and before long, your body will be unable to continue living.

This might seem fairly simple and obvious, yet we have enormous confusion in this area.  Many of us have difficulty with giving, receiving, or both.

In my observation, the more common problem is the inability to truly receive.  There are a number of reasons why receiving is difficult for so many of us.  Certainly, one factor is cultural conditioning.  Giving is generally viewed as honorable and praiseworthy.  Receiving, or taking, seems perilously close to selfishness, which has a lot of negative connotations for most of us.

Militarizing the Local Police (Part 2)

Written by; Gary Wonning

The riots in Missouri bring back many memories of such events in the past, the riots of the 60s,from which Detroit has never recovered, The Rodney King incident, and like several others, the full story was never told.

The O.J.Simpson trial, where riots broke out in Los Angeles, which would have been a lot worse had he been convicted. Even the  Trayvon Martin incident could have gotten a lot worse in short period of time.

There have been several such events in the recent past that has brought major destruction to the property of law abiding citizens.

I don’t think anyone wants to see their cities and homes burned to the ground, these types of incidents have to be controlled very quickly. We saw what happened in Ferguson, in many cases it was more about looting and robbing than it was about someone’s civil rights, or race.

Most people, and the press jumped to conclusions. The press and certain  so called civil rights leaders actually threw gasoline on an already explosive situation, having only their own selfish agenda in mind.

Our civil rights are important and protecting the Bill of Rights is of the utmost importance.

Having said that, we don’t live in the era of Barney Fife anymore. The world has changed. There is a real imminent threat to our way of life, our liberties, and our security like never before.

Technology has made it possible for almost anyone to create a weapon of mass destruction. Because of the actions of our own federal government, we have thousands flooding across our southern border daily that threaten our security and our way of life.

I don’t want to be an alarmist, but our country probably has hundreds, if not thousands of terrorists living within our borders. They are walking amongst us , many supposedly leading so-called normal lives.

We face threats on many levels, we will be attacked again, it is just a matter of time. When we are, it will be up to the local authorities to control the situation until, and if help arrives. There may come a day when we are glad our local police forces are armed as they are.

If things get really ugly, the federal government won’t be able to handle it, it will need to be taken care of on a local level.

Our second amendment rights need to be preserved, that is a major necessity, but we may need more firepower than the citizenry can provide, plus the local police force can gather much needed information and coordinate it, something the local citizenry cannot do.

Thankfully, most law enforcement officers have their heart in the right place and are dedicated to their mission.

There are always some bad apples in the barrel. The best way to ensure we have dedicated people in our local law enforcement is to hire the best people , regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, etc. It is time to stop hiring people to fill some quota, and fire and prosecute them if they overreach.

Like everyone else, I am concerned about the military build up of our local police forces, but I am equally concerned about the dangers facing our nation and our ability to face them. Our local police force may be our first line of defense.

The Islamic Terrorist Threat

Written by: The Bashful Country Boy

In today’s world the greatest threat to peace we have is Islamic terrorism.

Their murderous armies are spreading world wide, even to the United States , where many have come legally, but many more have entered through the porous U.S. /Mexican border.

Many see no problem with the number of illegals who have gained access to our country, and many welcome it as a humanitarian project. Many compare it to a time when people came here from Europe for a better life and see it as a way of offering many the opportunities we all enjoy as Americans.

However, there is a huge difference between immigrants from the past and those of today. In the past, most came for a chance to improve their lives and create an environment that contributed to the American way of life which offered life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

In today’s environment , that is not always the case.

Many now come to live off our system, thinking they are entitled to our privileges without contributing to it. They have forgotten that with rights come responsibilities.

And sadly, many come to destroy our way of life in order to spread a religion of hate. This wave of  hate is mainly , but not always, coming from the Islamic world.

Are all Muslims hateful? Of course not. It has been estimated that about ten percent of all Muslims are extremists. Even if that figure is correct, that ten percent can out number the total population of the United States, and it only takes a few from that ten percent to create havoc on a world wide level.

It is this ten percent that is given the Islamic world a bad name. How can this be reversed and not only spare the world a future filled with terrorism, but create a better understanding of the Islamic way of life?

There is only one group of people who can do it, the Muslims themselves. They are the ones who have to stand up and be counted. Just like in the black community, they are the one’s who need to stop condoning bad behavior. They need to call out members of their own race about their unacceptable behavior.

Bad behavior is bad behavior, it matters little what race, creed, or religion you happen to be. It is time to stop taking sides , if someone is not acting properly they need to be called out on it and appropriate action taken.

No one can do it for the Muslim community, if someone of a different races criticizes them or makes a statement, they are only called racist and an insensitive bigot.

They need to police themselves. This is the only way the world attitude will change, these wars have been going on for thousands of years, do you really want them to continue?

We can all exist in the world community, and practice whatever religious or spiritual belief we have. We don’t need to conquer others and force them to belief as we do.

Many times our own individual spiritual beliefs can change during a lifetime, who knows what you will believe tomorrow? As we gain in knowledge, rightfully so, our beliefs change to accommodate our newly learned information, we need to adjust our spiritual believes accordingly, it is the only way we can grow spiritually.

Let’s create a world where that is the norm.

Why do People take Drugs and Abuse Alcohol?

Written by Gary Wonning

Why do people take drugs and abuse alcohol?

In today’s world, it is becoming more and more acceptable to abuse drugs and alcohol. Why is this?

People have always to some extent consumed alcohol and drugs, there is even an argument that daily consumption of especially alcohol can have health benefits and lead to a healthier and longer life. There is even an argument that in certain cases use of illicit drugs can lead to a pain free life.

Many argue that drugs or no more harmful than alcohol and sometimes have less harmful effects on the human body than alcohol.

All of this is open to debate, and while the consumption of illegal drugs is becoming legal in many states and countries we have to begin asking ourselves why are people becoming more and more addicted to their use. It is one’s own personal choice as to whether he or she wants to ruin their life by the excessive consumption of drugs ,(illegal or legal),and or alcohol.

I don’t think the debate should be over whether or not one consumes drugs or alcohol one has to ask , “why are so many turning to these destructive behaviors?”

If we solved that dilemma, we wouldn’t need to worry about excessive drug or alcohol use, it wouldn’t be happening.

There are some religious orders who advocate not consuming alcohol at all , as one drink can lead to another and thus lead to alcoholism.  While this is certainly true, if one is of strong mind and body, and one has a strong spiritual foundation, then an occasional drink isn’t gong to lead to a life of alcohol abuse.

What has changed  in our society that has made people not able to face their problems and turn to drugs and alcohol to escape from reality?

Why can’t people face minor crises in their lives and be able to solve them without resorting to reality changing solutions?

Think About What You Want

What counts now is not just what we are against, but what we are for. Who leads us is less important than what leads us-what convictions, what courage, what faith-win or lose. A man doesn’t save a century, or a civilization, but a militant party wedded to a principal can. Adlai Stevenson.

Adlai Stevenson was a man who in his time, who in my opinion, would have made a horrible president. Obviously , many thought as I did, the man lost in a  landslide when he ran against Dwight Eisenhower in 1952.

In spite of this, the man  has made some brilliant,  memorable and lasting quotes, many of which have stood the test of time.

This quote of his exemplifies what we as Americans need to understand in today’s volatile political world climate. Too many people on the conservative side  are concentrating on what they don’t want instead of what they want, they are being driven by fear. Therefore they are bringing what they don’t want into fruition. As we think we reap.

Combine this with the left concentrating on what they want and you have a recipe for disaster. Both groups are materializing the same thing.

While who leads us as a nation is important , by thinking about what we want , that thinking will give us a good leader in contrast of always thinking negative.

In  order to get the country out of this mess we are in and return to sensibility, the solution is simple.

thinking

What can we do?

There are still many more conservatives than liberals in the country, if the conservatives would simply realize this simple fact and start focusing on what they want, soon their thoughts would out weigh the influences from the other side and we could return to something to would resemble common sense.

Maybe some people would better serve their country if they stayed out of politics and stuck to what they do best. It takes a certain breed of person to  understand what best works in the world arena. Some are destined to make the observations, others are destined to carry them out. Very seldom is it the same person.

As we begin this new year, let us begin to focus on what we want and how we can accomplish that. Let’s leave the negativity behind just as we left 2013 behind.

Remember, we always receive what we focus on.

John F Kennedy and the Tea Party

Many regard John Kennedy  as one of the finest presidents the United States was ever fortunate enough to have.

The democratic party often idolizes him and think they base their whole political philosophy on what he believed. What they have forgotten is how much the political beliefs have changed since his time.

In today’s world, the liberal philosophy is all about higher taxes, abortion, bigger government ,a  weakened military, eliminating free trade, and to them  communism is the preferred form of government. Many want to eliminate individual freedom and think all decisions that concern a person’s private life should be made by government.

These are all issues that John Kennedy opposed, he was pro-life, he was in favor of  keeping taxes as low as possible so businesses could compete on the world market. He was also  in favor of a strong military and saw a need for it because of the threat of communism that was prevalent in his day.

The liberals of today honor, idolize, and support John F.Kennedy , but no longer support those issues he stood for. If you don’t support what someone stands for, how can you support them?

They are only supporting the image and have never researched any farther. The haven’t realized how far to the left the democratic party has ventured.  If many of them would actually do some serious thinking and soul searching, they would come to realize their basic values no longer are represented by either party , especially the democratic party, they would have to make some serious changes in their political views.

The beliefs of both parties have changed drastically over the years, and while change is good, change for the sake of change isn’t always in the best interest of anyone. When making changes, one must remember to retain what is important and what works, We Americans have thrown the baby out with the bathwater.

If people actually thought about something besides the latest electronic device to hit the market place, many would begin to realize the times have changed and political parties aren’t  what they used to be.

Soon many would begin to understand that their views would better be expressed by either the Tea Party or the Libertarian Party, or another party of their choice. This would be quite a shock to many and I’m not sure their heart could handle it.
