Stress Is Another Word For Fear

Wisdom lost through the ages, common sense is no longer common.

Written by Gary Wonning

In spite of living in the modern day world where most of us live in a secure environment and relative free of life threatening issues, many people experience more fear than in times  past where many faced danger and even death on a daily basis.

Fear is an unpleasant feeling of perceived risk or danger, real or not.

Fear also could be described as a feeling of extreme dislike to some conditions or objects, such as: fear of darkness, fear of ghosts, etc.

It is one of the basic emotions .

Fear inside a person has degrees and it’s different from one person to another  and if it’s not properly handled could lead to social and health problems. Fear can be described by different terms in accordance with its relative degrees – terror, fright, paranoia, horror, or even a persecution complex.

Many times, controlling people use fear  as a powerful weapon, manipulating people into doing certain actions for the perpetrators personal gain.

Anxiety, stress, fear, phobia and tension are often used interchangeable to describe one of this century’s most common problems.

Anxiety has been called the official emotion of our age, the bases of all neuroses, and the most pervasive psychological phenomenon of our time.

Intense anxiety can shorten one’s attention span, make concentration difficult, cause forgetfulness, hinder performance skills, interfere with problem solving, block effective communication, arouse panic, and sometimes cause unpleasant physical symptoms such as paralysis, rapid heartbeat or intense headaches.

In all of it’s many forms, fear can be a serious detriment to health and in many cases it can be totally avoided.

After all is said and done, fear is only a factor in our lives when we discover it’s true identity, stress.

As we lead our daily lives each of us have many things we can stress out about, the list is endless.  Only when we realize it is created in our mind can we deal with it and eliminate fear from our lives.

FEAR is just an acronym for False Evidence Appearing Real.  Most of what we fear never materializes, it is just our mind playing tricks on us, and if we stop and think most of the time we can create an environment where our fears never materialize.

It is this thinking that creates undue stress, and this stress is created by a lack of faith.  We either have faith or fear in our lives, we can’t have both.

Fear is running rampant in America today because many have lost faith, faith in themselves, faith in a higher power and the faith to know that in the end, everyt

Gary has been a writer/photographer for over thirty years. Specializing in nature and landscape photography, while studying native cultures.

His travels have taken him to most of the United States, as well as Australia, Belize, Egypt and the Canary Islands.

He has studied the Mayan culture of Central America and the aborigines of

Australia. Photography has given him the opportunity to observe life in various parts of the world.

He has observed that many of the forgotten cultures had spiritual beliefs that were stronger than ours in modern times.

In technology, we have made advances far superior to those that came before us, but, we have lagged behind in gaining or maintaining our spiritual knowledge.

For us to advance as the human race, we need to combine the spiritual knowledge of those that came before us, not only that of the ancients but the knowledge of our direct ancestors as well, with the technical knowledge we have today for us to propel into the twenty-first century and beyond.

He has published several books about his adventures.

Learn from the Past, Live in the Now

We
often get caught up in daily living and forget our mission here on
earth. We all have incidents in our past that can control our future and
how we deal with present day events.

When
as a child we get burned by touching a hot stove, we learn to never
touch a hot stove again, this becomes a self preservation action. In
most instances, this is a good thing, however when carried to the
extreme, it can have life limiting consequences.

Many
people after having been burned would never go near a stove again. The
lesson to be learned is to be careful, not avoid the situation entirely.
To do so would be counterproductive and not in our best interest. Life
doesn’t come with a manual, we learn as we go, taking our personal
experiences along with that of others and fashioning a better life for
not only ourselves, but others as well.

Secret to Life

To
live a better life, we need to each learn from the past, to appreciate
the past, but to live now. It isn’t so much a lifestyle, as a living
style. We all have a past with certain events that took place we would
sooner forget about.

The
key is not to forget about them , but learn from them. Not necessarily
to dwell on them , but to understand why a certain situation came about
in our life and what we can learn from it. We attract life situations to
us to assist us in our daily evolution from what we were to what we can
become.

Whatever
we encounter, we have attracted to us, we can blame no one. It is our
opportunity to grow spiritually. Many say that life is unfair, however,
as unlikely as that may seem, judging as to the many obstacles some
people face, it is true.

The
fact is , the individuals who face the most challenges in life are the
most blessed, they are being given many more opportunities to improve
their life and move past the karma they bring from previous existences.

It
may not seem like it at the time, but these people , if the lessons are
learned correctly will have the opportunity to become more enlightened
than they would have ever thought possible. In the process, they would
never change the challenges they faced in life with anyone.

Whatever
challenges we face in life, we have created them ourselves, and dealing
with them in a positive way can only be a benefit to ourselves and the
people around us.

Thomas Jefferson: God, Liberty

Many question how America could become a free country will all men being created equal when slavery was still allowed in the southern states.

The founding fathers knew this was wrong , but at the time could do nothing about it. They knew that at some future point it would be a huge problem for the country. The southern states would never approve a constitution that banned slavery and many could not afford to set their slaves free as there was a huge tax to be paid, not even George Washington could afford to pay the tax.

As a result, they treated their slaves as humanly as possible and could only hope the problem would be resolved peacefully in the future.

Ten Steps to a Happier Life

Define Happiness
What
is your definition of a happy life?  Are you living it?  Think
carefully on this because your definition of happiness will influence
every other significant decision in your life.  For example, if you
think happiness is outside you, you will make happiness into a search, a
catch, or a reward that you must earn. If, however, you know happiness
is inside you then happiness becomes a compass, a teacher, and an
enabler that helps you to live your best life.

Accept Yourself
Without
self-acceptance, you will limit and block how much happiness,
prosperity, love, and success you will enjoy.  The miracle of
self-acceptance is that if you are willing to accept that happiness
already exists in you, you will begin to experience more happiness
around you.

Follow Your Joy
There
is a world of difference between searching for happiness and following
your joy.  Following your joy is about listening to your heart’s
desires, noticing what truly inspires you, and recognizing your soul’s
purpose.  A good starting point is to reflect on the question “When am I
at my happiest?”

Choose Happiness
Try
to find the place in your mind where you have already decided how good
today will be, how good this year will be, how good your life will be.
Are you happy with your decision?  Set a positive intention right now
to let today be even more enjoyable than you thought it was going to be.

Free Happiness
A
lot of happiness is overlooked because it doesn’t cost anything.  If
you think money will buy you happiness, you will go shopping for the
rest of your life and never be completely satisfied. To enjoy some free
happiness, make a list of everything in your life that costs no money
and is totally priceless – like laughter, friendship, meditation, air,
kindness, and the stars at night.

Love Someone
To
be happy, all you have to do is be the most loving person you can be.
People who give their best time, energy, and attention to their most
important relationships experience more happiness. Stop the busyness,
and think about who you would like to spend more time with, acknowledge
more, and have more fun with.

Forgive NOW
Sometimes
in order to be happy now you have to be willing to give up all hopes
for a better past. Living happily ever after starts with forgiveness.
You can’t keep carrying a grievance and hope to be happy. Happiness is a
gift you give yourself because it sets you free.

Vocal Gratitude
Say
out loud three things you are grateful for. Do this right now, before
you go on reading this article. Gratitude is often referred to as the
shortest shortcut to happiness.  The more grateful you are, the happier
you will feel.

Beware Martyrdom
A
martyr believes they have to sacrifice themselves and happiness in
order to enjoy the good things in life.  When you try to play the
martyr, you lose and so does everyone else.  Be kind to yourself.  Life
always gets better when you treat yourself better.

Be Present
Living
in the “not now” is a chief cause of unhappiness. In the English
language, the word “present” has three distinct meanings:  “here”, “now”
and “a gift”.  The more present you are in each moment, the more
happiness you will find. Happiness is where you are.

You Must Have Faith

You
must have faith and experience in order to live life fully.

 You must
have faith that all of the things you expect from life are possible for
you.  You must have faith that no matter what life brings you, you will
be able to handle it.  You must have faith that your faith will
eventually lead to good experiences.

Experience
teaches you that your faith is paying off.  Once you have had an
experience, you know that you know.  When you know, you become more
faithful.  Once you have an experience, it makes you want better or
different experiences.  The difference between faith and experience is
this:  One you must work on.  The other one works on you.

Youmust work to keep your faith alive.  When you are working on faith, it
may feel as if you are going against the grain.  There may be no
evidence that what you believe has any validity.  Still, you must move
forward faithfully, until you have the experience that will lead you to
knowing.  An experience leaves a mark on your consciousness.  An
experience will guide your thoughts and your actions.  An experience can
open your heart to new horizons or close your heart in fear.  In the
midst of an experience, you must have faith that you will ultimately
reap some benefit from what you now know to be true.

It
is important to know what experiences to put your faith in.  If you
have an unpleasant experience, have faith that you will learn something
new, useful or productive.  When you have a pleasant or productive
experience, have faith that you can duplicate the experience and make it
better.  Have faith that your mind and heart will always be open to
bigger, better experiences than those you have already had.

Until
today, you may not have realized that your faith and your experiences
work hand in hand.  Just for today, use your faith to create better
experiences.  Use your experiences to activate a deeper sense of faith.

This moment is all you have

At
a certain point, life becomes less about who you’re becoming and more
about who you’ve become.  What you used to think of as the future has
become the present, and you can’t help but wonder if your life wouldn’t
be better if you’d just lived it more fully in the past.  But how could
you have?  You were too busy thinking about the future!

Once
you’re past a certain age, you can hardly believe you wasted even one
minute of your youth not enjoying it.  And the last thing you want to do
now is steal any more life from yourself by failing to be deeply in it
while it’s happening.  You finally get it–not just theoretically, but
viscerally–that this moment is all you have.

You don’t close your eyes anymore and wonder who you might be in 20
years; if you’re smart, you study the tape of your current existence to
monitor how you’re doing now.  You see the present as an ongoing act of
creation.  You look more closely at your thoughts, behavior, and
interaction with others.  You understand that if you’re coming at life
from fear and separation, you have no reason to expect anything but fear
and separation back.

You seek to increase your strengths and decrease
your weaknesses.  You look at your wounds and ask God to heal them.  You
ask forgiveness for the things you’re ashamed of.  You no longer seek
your satisfaction in things outside yourself, completion in other
people, or peace of mind in either the past or future.  You are who you
are, not who you might one day be.  Your life is what it is,
not what it might someday be.  Focusing on who you are and what your
life is right now, you come to the ironic and almost amusing realization
that, yes, the fun is in the journey itself.

Your Life Plan: One Day at a Time

We all like to think we have our life under control and we know the
direction it will go. This can give a false sense of security to us as
life’s circumstances are not always what you may wish them to be. The
pattern of life does not always go in the direction you may want it to
head.

I often say I had my whole life planned when I was twenty-one, and I
haven’t done any of it yet. This has been a good thing, my life has
turned out better than I could have ever imagined in my wildest dreams. I
would have never visualized some of the things I have been fortunate
enough to experience. It hasn’t always been easy, and at the time, if I
thought I had a choice, I would have never chosen some of the events I
experienced. But looking back at the big picture I realize the good
times and the final outcome has far surpassed any trials I may have had
to endure.

Buddhist Proverb
There is an old proverb stating that a thing valued is worth enduring and
working for and this is true. The harder we strive to meet a goal and
the more effort we put towards achieving that goal , the more we value
it. I was told early in life that to work for something would make it
more important to me, and I soon found this was true. the people that
were handed everything on a sliver platter early in life never
appreciated them and in most cases either destroyed what was given them
or were extremely ungrateful. Most often they even resented the very
ones who were trying to pander to them.

You still see this today, many times, the individuals who are the most
privileged are the ones protesting against the society that has given
them so much.

Our life circumstances are never exactly as we would want them, but they
are as we need them. The pattern of life very seldom goes as we plan, if
it did , life would be very boring and predictable. Many times we may
think we are being lead off our life plan entirely.

In spite of all this, it is essential to have a plan, to not have a plan
is to wander aimlessly in life and accomplish very little. Instead of
wondering or questioning the direction you life has taken , just accept
the fact there is a plan and you may not know all the details, it is a
play as you go life, often times we need to complete one step before the
next step is revealed to us.

If we keep traveling in the correct direction , we eventually reach our
destination , often times the destination is far better than we could
humanly predict, and in the end we find that it isn’t the destination,
but the journey that is important.

Walk your path one step at a time – with courage, faith and determination.
Keep your head up, and cast your dreams to the stars. Soon your steps
will become firm and your footing will be solid again.A path that you
never imagined will become the most comfortable direction you could ever
hoped to follow.

Keep your belief in yourself and walk into your new journey. You will find
it magnificent, spectacular, and beyond your wildest imaginings.

Enlightenment

At this period of time in the history of man, there is probably more individual searching being done into the theories behind the origin of the human race, what happens after death, the possibility of life on other planets, and what our relationship is to these life forms, if they do exist. There are millions of people who are questioning the existence of God, who he really is, and what is my relationship with him? Is he someone who mysteriously floats around on a cloud watching and judging us from above like some bigger than life Santa Claus, or is he, like many of the esoteric sciences claim, a part of our inner Self, whom we have constant contact with, someone whom we and everything in the universe are connected and are thus one? Each of us in our own way is experiencing what God is, and thus we are each a part of God, thus we are God! This book is a brief account of my search for my own truth.

Available in hard copy and Ebook format.
