The Toothache

The Smiths were shown into the dentist’s office, where
Mr. Smith made it clear that he didn’t want to spend
a lot of money.

“No fancy stuff, Doctor,” he ordered, “No gas or needles
or any of that stuff. Just pull the tooth and get it
over with.”

“I wish more of my patients were as stoic as you,” said
the dentist admiringly. “Now, which tooth is it?”

Mr. Smith turned to his wife…
“Show him your tooth, honey!”

Adrenal Fatigue

Several years ago , my life became very stressful, many life changing events seemed to be happening at the same time, and not only was I working ten to twelve hours a day, but after I returned home for the day, I would spend a couple of hours on the phone with either attorneys or credit card companies.

After spending many years, like a lot of Americans in today’s society in stressful occupations, it began to take it’s toll. After that period of time passed, I felt as though I was completely burned out, I no longer had a desire to participate in today’s world, I felt like just coasting through life.

I never realized it at the time, I was still rather active for my age, and assumed what I was feeling was just a result of getting older. I didn’t feel sick ,just not as ambitious as I once was.

As I approached seventy, it seemed to get worse, and although when I went for a check up nothing showed up as if there was anything wrong with my health, I just needed more sleep and the slightest stress completely wore me out.

On day my chiropractor mentioned something about adrenal fatigue, something I had never heard of. He explained that when people lead stressful lives, the adrenals are continuously pumping out adrenaline to compensate. The adrenals control every function in our body and can become overworked.

With the stresses in today’s world, where there is always some kind of crisis, sooner or later the adrenals rebel and just won’t supply all the adrenaline that is needed to maintain our bodies in a normal manner.  Soon we begin to feel tired, aches and pains begin to surface and other physical symptoms can appear. It can happen gradually, so many times we never even notice we aren’t feeling good, and there are no acute symptoms, so what’s to worry?

On our chiropractor’s recommendation, we stopped at the health food store and bought some adrenal support pills on the way home. I figured it couldn’t hurt anything and they were only twenty bucks.

It was the first of December, so it was time to put up the Christmas decorations. After taking two of the pills , I headed out the door to perform my duties. Much to my surprise, twenty minutes later , I began to feel much better! It was almost instantly, I could feel my legs and body begin to change, the tiredness I didn’t even know I had was disappearing, soon I was feeling better than I had for 30 years, more energy, no subtle pain in my back and legs , it seemed my sinuses and allergies were even getting better.

I never realized how bad I had felt the last several years, I began to feel like I had the energy of a thirty year old, procrastination went out the window. I now have the energy to do many things I have been wanting to do for years, but never seemed to find the time.

So much for doctors, it’s time we decided to chart our own course and determine what measures we need to take to take care of our own health and not let some bureaucrat in Washington do it.

The Bookie at the Inn

The Bookmaker at the Inn

A certain bookmaker who was making a long trip by car when toward nightfall he happened upon an inn which had a most unusual name: The Even Steven.

Since it was located in the middle of a desolate stretch of country, and he didn’t know how much farther the next place would be, he decided to stop there for the night. He registered, listing his occupation as a bookmaker, and decided to satisfy his curiosity about the name at the same time.

“It’s very simple, really,” the proprietor explained. “You see, my name is Steven Even. So I just decided to turn it around and call this The Even Steven. I thought if might get a few folks puzzled enough to stop and ask questions, and sometimes it does.”

“That’s a pretty smart way to use the luck of a name,” said the bookie, appreciatively. “I bet it brings you a lot of business.”

“It hasn’t brought me so much luck,” he said. “The folks who stop here don’t stay long. There’s not much gaiety around here, as you could see. In fact, there’s not another soul lives closer than thirty miles away, whichever way you go. Makes it pretty lonely for me, a widower. And worse still for my daughters — two of the loveliest girls you ever set eyes on, should have their pick of boyfriends. But, they are getting so frustrated they’re about to do anything for a man.”

The bookie made sympathetic noises, and listened to more in the same vein until hunger obliged him to change the subject to that of food. An excellent home-cooked dinner was served to him by a gorgeous blonde who introduced herself as Blanche Even, and when he was finished she still kept pressing him to ask for anything else he wanted.

Finally, she said, “Would you like me to sit and talk to you for a while?”

“Thank you,” he said politely, “but I’ve had a long day and I feel like closing the book.”

He went to his room and had just started to undress when there was a knock at the door and an absolutely breathtaking brunette came in. “I’m Carmen Even,” she said. “I just wanted to see if you’d got everything you want.”

“I think so, thank you,” he said pleasantly. “I do a lot of traveling, so I pack very systematically.”

When she had gone, he settled down with a sigh of relief and was about to put out the light at last when the door burst open once more and the proprietor himself stomped in, glowing with indignation. “What’s the matter with you,” he roared. “I’ve got to listen all night to my daughters moaning an’ wailing, the most luscious gals in this county, because they all try to show you hospitality an’ you won’t give one of ’em a tumble. Ain’t us Evens good enough for you?”

“I’m sorry,” said the transient. “But I told you when I registered that I’m a professional bookmaker: I only lay Odds.”

Aruba’s First Inhabitants

Aruba’s first  known inhabitants were the Caquetios Indians from the Arawak tribe.

Orjanstad Marina Aruba

The earliest known settlements date back to about 1000 A. D. , the painted symbols they left behind are still visible on limestone caves found at Fontein, Ayo, and elsewhere on the island.

Some centuries later, the first Europeans landed on Aruban shores. Spanish explorer Alonso De  Ojeda  is thought to have been the first and arrived about 1499. The Spanish explorer promptly captured and exported the  Indians  to Santo Domingo were they were put to work in the copper mines.

In 1636, near the culmination of the eighty years’ war between Spain and Holland, the Dutch took possession of Aruba and remained in control until the Napoleonic wars when the British took control.

However in 1816, the island was returned to the Dutch .

Although Aruba continues to exist within the kingdom of the Netherlands, today it functions independently.

As with most islands in the Caribbean,Aruba has a melange of people from all over the world, South America, Europe, the far East, and other islands in the Caribbean.

Enlightenment
At this period of time in the history of man, there is probably more individual searching being done into the theories behind the origin of the human race, what happens after death, the possibility of life on other planets, and what our relationship is to these life forms, if they do exist. There are millions of people who are questioning the existence of God, who he really is, and what is my relationship with him? Is he someone who mysteriously floats around on a cloud watching and judging us from above like some bigger than life Santa Claus, or is he, like many of the esoteric sciences claim, a part of our inner Self, whom we have constant contact with, someone whom we and everything in the universe are connected and are thus one? Each of us in our own way is experiencing what God is, and thus we are each a part of God, thus we are God! This book is a brief account of my search for my own truth

The Hot Dog Vendor

The Hotdog Vendor

So many people think the first line of this is the joke. It’s not. It’s …the first line!

A Buddhist monk approaches a hotdog stand and says, “Make me one with everything.”

The vendor has heard this one before, and without a word he simply makes the hot dog and hands it to the Buddhist monk, who pays with a $20 bill.

The vendor puts the bill in the cash box and closes it.

“Excuse me, but where’s my change?” asks the Buddhist monk.

The vendor replies, “Change must come from within.”

alcohol

In today’s world, many resort to abusing drugs and alcohol, why are so many becoming addicted and not only destroying their lives but the lives of others around them as well?

Managing your own health

Many changes have taken place on the American health care scene.

No longer can we be assured that our health plan will be here tomorrow, or even our doctor, and if our doctor is still practicing, no longer can we be assured our health plan will cover the visits like they did just a few short weeks ago.

Like in many areas of our life, freedom of choice has disappeared for Americans. No longer can we drive down the street and pick out a doctor, our choice now has to be approved by some bureaucrat in Washington D.C.

Not only that, the level of care has diminished. Doctors are dropping out of the system, some hospitals will not participate in Obama Care, and many prescription drugs are no longer covered.

So, what are we to do? Everything has changed, so we must too. Luckily, my health is good and even though I’m approaching seventy years of age, I rarely see a doctor. I attribute that to not only good genes, but also trying to live a healthy lifestyle. My lifestyle probably isn’t perfect. I have never smoked, I have always gotten a fair amount of exercise, and drink very little. I am not and never will be a vegetarian, tried it, didn’t like it, besides that I need meat in my diet, just the way I am.

I became more health conscious when in my forties and there hasn’t been any sugar in my house since. I do eat ice cream, cake and other sweets occasionally, everything in moderation is my motto.

I have found that when I diet, I only crave what I’m not supposed to have all the more, and sooner or later I will fall off the wagon. By eating anything my body craves, but in smaller portions the need to indulge disappears.

With all the new health care rules, we can no longer choose which doctor to see and so on, and the times my wife or I have gone to the doctor, we often get a blank stare like they have no idea what the problem is or how to cure it. If the little piece of paper they get back from some sterile lab doesn’t tell them what to do, they are completely lost.

Doctors sometimes search for years to find the cure for some disease that they don’t even know exists. I have found that chiropractors and natural healers can perform more miracles than the most well educated professional doctor.

By performing some muscle testing and other exercises, many times the cause and cure can be determined. They still make your visit personal, something missing from conventional medicine. So many times in conventional medicine, you are herded into the office like cattle, quickly checked over and sent on your way with only a poisonous prescription.

My grandparents and parents all lived to be in their nineties, never went to a doctor and ate generous portions of eggs, fatty meats, especially bacon, and desserts, but they never had processed food in their diets.

When they did get sick, they fixed some herb from the woods and quickly began to feel better. I think they were on to something!

I believe we Americans have to once again declare our independence from government control. We have lost much in the last hundred years, we have put our whole life into the hands of government and large institutions that don’t care for us.

Many times their only objective is to make money and large amounts of it.There is nothing wrong with someone making money, or even a lot of money, but when that is the only objective then something is wrong.

The medical profession is out of control , and even though most doctors really do care about their patients, many times their hands are tied.

We need to once again put ourselves in charge of our medical needs, no one cares about you like you do, no one will take care of you like you will, no one else has as much too lose as you do.

I have declared my independence for the medical profession, I will still go for my annual checkup, only because I need to so my medicare will remain in force, but that’s as far as it goes., hopefully medicare will sooner or later wake up and cover alternative medicine. Maybe down the road I will need them for something, but unless I break a leg or something, I doubt it.

If you learn to listen to your body, it will tell you what it needs to stay healthy, and yes sometimes your body will tell you you  do need a hot fudge sundae.

I am now in control of my life, especially my health, not some bureaucrat in Washington D.C.

Will I die sooner, maybe, but I doubt it. Look how many people have been killed when they have undergone cancer treatment. Look how many people go into a hospital and die from an infection unrelated to what they where admitted for.

I am in control of my life, you know what? I feel better already.

best of times
