I grew up on a farm in a very conservative rural southeastern Indiana environment. My parents and most of my family were, and still are conservative, and those values no doubt rubbed off on me. But as I looked back and began to question things, I realized that those teachings were not only the way I was raised, but those values are the only techniques that “work.”
About the time I was forty, having experienced a good portion of “life”, and not having everything turn out the way I had planned, even though I had tried to do everything the “right” way, (get a good job, join the right clubs, etc.) I began to question my values and look for answers.
The journey I began took me to the four corners of the earth, during which time I studied the customs, ways, and beliefs of the Aborigines, the American Indian, the Maya, the Egyptians, and many others.
Time and time again, the same answer keeps coming back to me.
A prime example is the Australian Aborigine, these native peoples roamed the outback of Australia for thousands of years, although their culture is fascinating and extremely spiritual, and their link to the divine energy is amazing, they never really advanced past the stone age.
Because of the advancement of the Australian culture they have been primarily “left behind”. To the credit of the Australian government, they are trying to help them, the government gave them everything, housing, food education, etc. For the most part this has had a negative effect, they still sleep outside and pretty much live the same way they have for thousands of years. I’m not sure what the perfect answer is, but government welfare in never the answer.
Of course, that doesn’t mean that the government or us as individuals should never help someone in need, it just means that welfare shouldn’t be a career choice.
This doesn’t mean that conservatives are cold hearted and uncaring, it is a well-documented fact that conservatives give far more to charities than their more liberal friends.
It will take several generations for the aborigines to adapt to the more modern ways, I hope they don’t loose all of their spiritual knowledge along the way.
The only thing that would help them is to provide training, education, and a new purpose to life. This takes time, but it is a better way than just giving them everything, with no motivation to improve their lot in life.
I was taught early in life that I didn’t tell my mother I was bored, if I asked for money to buy candy, there was always a cow to milk or weeds to pull in the garden, they provided a good home and my basic needs, but if I wanted something extra, I soon learned I had to work for it. I started driving a tractor when I was about 3 years old and started milking cows at about 5. I supposed that would be child abuse today.
I have found our society has become extremely entitlement conscious,a lot of people want something for nothing and they think that the government should pay for it.
They don’t realize that when the government pays for something, those free benefits become very expensive, and vast amounts of waste and corruption enter into the scene, besides the fact that someone has to pay for them, the American taxpayer.
The socialistic ideas of the left serve no one. Every four years I have heard the left promise us the “rainbow” and everything else our little hearts could desire. There is no way they can fulfill these promises, only the uninformed could believe such rhetoric. You simply cannot lower taxes for 95% of the taxpayers, increase government spending by trillions of dollars and reduce the deficit. Anyone who has studied basic economics understands that when the economy is soft, taxes need to be lowered, not raised. Raising taxes will just add to the problem, a real disaster could result.
The liberals are not offering any change, just the same 50 year old rheteric, they keep wanting to take us Back to the Future.
This election has shown us the real motive of N.O. W., the National Organization of Women, for years they have touted the fact that they are for the advancement of women. Now the truth comes out , if they were for the advancement of women, they would be supporting Sarah Palin, they are not supporting her, she has the wrong values for them, they are an organization that supports women only if they have left wings philosophies, let’s call it like it is, they are a left wing organization that only support women who support their ideals.
We keep inching closer and closer to socialism in the United States, that is not what our founding fathers had in mind. Our country was founded on the principles of a free market and individualism, that is how we became the leading economic country in the world.
The human being thrives best when it is free to choose and make it’s own decisions, most people don’t want to be drones.
Socialism simply doesn’t work, when competition is taken out of the mix and people aren’t rewarded for achieving, all incentive is lost and a lot of the new innovations are never innovated, because there is no reward.
Government is never the answer, that has been proven world wide, whenever any government tries to solve a problem, the problem just gets worse.
The cure Everything that can be done by the private economy should be left in the private sector, sure greed enters into it, but when any one company or sector becomes too “greedy” someone with a better idea and a cheaper price comes along and knocks them off their pedestal.
We as individuals have to solve our own problems and take our lifeinto our own hands, that is the only way it works, it is governments job to stay out of the way.
I have now come full circle, from being born a conservative, and after reaching a point where I began to question, and considering the more liberal points of view, doing my own research, and finding out for myself , I finally settled back to the values I was raised with.

There is an extreme shortage of common sense in today’s world, When looking back in history, I soon discovered this has always been a problem, Benjamin Franklin once said, ”Of all the senses, common sense seems to be the one that is used the least.” As obvious as it may seem, many seem to be totally oblivious to it. Most, if not all of the problems the world faces today could be solved if people would just sit back and think about what would seem to be the most obvious and simple solution to any issue. Often times people tend to overcomplicate the issues. I often think back to what my parents and grandparents believed and said, at the time I thought they were totally out of their mind and ignored it. I now wish I would have listened and followed their advice. It is now evident they were a lot smarter than we gave them credit for. Many times, in today’s world, the schools and universities can no longer be counted on to teach truth and values that will guide someone through life.
