Cincinnati Reds Spring Training

After many years, the Cincinnati Reds are leaving their roots behind and moving to Arizona for spring training.
Having grown up in southeastern Indiana, I remember listening to the “Reds on Radio” with Joe Nuxhol, from the time I was knee-high to a grasshopper.
It was always nice to hear how warm it was in Florida while we were enjoying our last blizzards of the season in the mid west. It gave us hope that spring would be coming soon.

The Reds have been coming to Florida for as long as I can remember, with the last several years being spent in Sarasota, Florida.

I had the opportunity to attend their last game which was played on March 29th, 2008.

There is nothing like a spring training game, it has a personality of it’s own, there is a small town atmosphere that isn’t available at the larger parks.

Ed Smith stadium has a picnic area adjacent to the ball park, where the opportunity is found to enjoy a hot dog, hamburger, and soft drink while meeting folks with ties to the Cincinnati area,  Northern Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky.

Many conversations included  comments that it just wouldn’t be the same in Arizona, many expressed the opinion that they would not go to Phoenix, many of the fans have winter homes in Florida and it just wouldn’t be practical for them to make the journey to Arizona.

So, while 4,500 loyal fans enjoyed a 8 to 4 victory over the Tampa Devil Rays,  and a spring training record attendance of over 90,000, the Reds bid farewell to Florida and headed north to begin the season in Cincinnati, with next year’s spring training slated for “The Valley of the Sun”.

A Simple Sell Photos Online Formula Any Photographer Can Easily Use

By Martin Hurley

If you’ve ever tried selling your photos in the form of a photo product such as an original framed print, a limited edition signed poster, or a canvas photo print, you’d know that it takes LOTS of effort to do.

In fact the whole process can end up being downright tedious. After all, just consider the work and time involved… you have to figure out how to print the photograph up, find the right frame (if framing it), package it securely, find a good courier that’ll transport it safely and cheaply, and so on.

In fact, the time and effort it takes to do all this is likely the one key factor that stops many photographers from actually going ahead and doing it! You’d be right to think that there must be a better way…

There is of course, and that’s what this article is about. Actually it just involves tapping into many of the numerous online resources that are more than happy to do all the printing, framing, packing and shipping for you! Of course, you’ll need to pay for it to be done, but the costs can be quite minimal overall. And the end result can be brilliant!

The process involves uploading your chosen photograph/s to one of the many ‘print on demand’ websites. (We’ll use CafePress as an example). CafePress basically hand you a blank canvas… you (upload your photo) and then design and create your own custom photo product… They then print this on your choice of greeting cards, home decor, ceramics, clothing, stickers, calendars, framed photo prints and more…

If you know how to do it, that part is easy enough. You need to get the photo sizing right, and there’s certain requirements for the images you upload, such as the particular image format and the resolution. CafePress does explain a lot of this at its website, but the ‘sellable’ factor of the photo you choose is something you’ll have to mull over yourself, and perhaps get feedback from trusted friends.

The next part is selling your photo product. For this you’ll use eBay.com as they are a good testing ground for you to ‘experience’ selling your new photo product. eBay is relatively inexpensive and a heavily ‘traveled’ web site (over 100 million members) – many of these people are going to eBay to buy and sell goods, so it makes sense to ‘go where the people are!’

After all, you do want them to see (and buy) your custom photo product, right? The best way to learn how to do this part is actually to get in there and do it. Get familiar with how eBay works, what sells best, how to present your listing, how it all runs and flows…

In a nutshell that’s almost all there is to this simple sell photos online formula. Create an attractive photo product using CafePress, and then sell it using eBay. However if you jump into doing this it’s quite likely that quite a few questions would pop up at you…

For example you might be thinking how can I make sure my framed print (or the product you decide on) sells? How do I run a successful eBay listing (auction)? Or how do I know what will sell? eBay will be able to answer some of these questions for you. Plus they have a pretty helpful sellers forum and ‘live help desk’ that I encourage you to use to get knowledgeable quickly.

There’s also another seldom used CafePress technique that takes this formula one step further. It’s not really an ‘advanced’ technique as such, although it’s quite difficult to explain clearly! You do what we’ve already mentioned… create your unique photo product and let CafePress send this to your (eBay) buyer.

Except this time around you ‘turn the technique on’ and stand back and watch impressively as your new customer (your buyer) receives your one-of-a-kind framed photographic print (or custom product) directly from you!

Read those words again… and then let them sink in. Your new customer receives it ‘from you!’ Shouldn’t they be receiving the unique photo product that you created ‘directly’ from CafePress? Well, actually they do, but they won’t know this! That’s the beauty of this ‘sneaky’ technique.

And, as I mentioned, it’s a little difficult to explain fully here. But suffice to say, the technique works quite well and can be used repeatedly to sell your own photography products, no matter what. You just need to tweak it a little to fit your style…

So, hopefully, the (relatively!) simple sell photos online formula here has given you some creative food for thought… Now you just need to go and experience it for yourself, and use it to get your own amazing photo products out there!

Return to Oz, A Modern Day Walkabout

Sydney Opera House

At this point, I left the main trail and began walking around the back of the rock and began climbing the 100 ft. vertical wall, all the time carrying 40 lbs. of camera gear on my back. As I began my ascent my reality began to change, I was no longer an American photographer visiting Australia, I was transformed into a native carefully climbing a vertical wall, placing each hand and foot in a strategic place, never pausing, but slowly climbing upward as I had done many times before. Always finding a tree, root or rock ledge enabling me to continue my climb, never pausing but slowly climbing upward in my search for truth. Reaching the top of this sacred Shrine in the middle of some of the most isolated land in the world I began to feel overwhelming love and peace and a sense of being home, I had returned to Oz.

Australia:Early Morning Balloon Ride

Balloon Launch, Near Alice Springs.

The perfect way to start a day.

Rising before dawn, I looked with much anticipation to  my first ever balloon flight, to make it even better, I was  going on my maiden flight in the middle of the outback of Australia.
It was still dark as we approached  the launch site, preparing the balloon in the dark was quite an adventure, not knowing what to do lead to much confusion on the part of us green horns. We were mainly reduced to observers as the crew prepared for the flight.

There would be a covey of four balloons in our fleet, it was quite a sight as the burners were lit and the balloons began to inflate just as the sun began to rise above the horizon.

I was fortunate enough to be in the last balloon to launch, which gave me the opportunity to observe the others ascending into the early morning light.
As we quietly floated above the desert, the many inhabitants of the land were quietly awakening and beginning to forage for breakfast.

Kangaroos, Wallabies, Dingos, and birds of all descriptions were roaming about, oblivious to our presence.

What a beautiful sight! As the sun rose higher and higher in the sky, the landscape changed by the minute.

Being totally engulfed in the moment, time passed quickly, soon our descent began and it was time to come back down to earth.

Lightly touching the earth, our next task was to fold the balloon, load it on the trailer to ready it for flight the next morning.

Now it was time for our reward, a Champagne Breakfast. Making a table on the trailer, champagne, wine, cheeses, and all the trimmings were presented for our enjoyment.

Returning back to our hotel by mid-morning, we still had plenty of time to enjoy the sights of Alice Springs.

A Cowboy

A cowboy told his grandson the secret to a long life.

He said, “You gotta sprinkle a little gunpowder on your oatmeal, see. If you do, you’ll live to a nice ripe old age.”

So the cowboy did this religiously every day, and sure enough, lived to the nice ripe old age of 96.

When he died he left behind 4 children, 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren

…and a 16 foot hole in the wall of the crematorium.

Obama and the Preacher

I am not a Geraldine fan or a Hillary fan, but I find myself agreeing with them on some statements they have made. Geraldine was correct, Obama would not be where he is if he weren’t black, he has no experience, and no credentials.
His association with that pastor should automatically exclude him from the race.
those statements were and are inflammatory, bigoted and racist.
They are no different than the hate that is being spread in the Middle East. If something isn’t done to stop this kind of rhetoric, these extremest will be strapping bombs on their back within ten years.

I can’t believe people are not seeing what is going on here, if some other group were saying things like this there would be an uproar!

The press is accepting it and having a pity party, we have all had things in our life that didn’t turn out the way we would have liked, we have all been discriminated against at some point, but that doesn’t give us the right to spread hate and anger towards the rest of humanity.

Slavery was wrong, but it is no more , it ended almost 200 years ago, some of my ancestors endured a lot of hardships also, look at the Jews, look at how they were treated. That was only 60 years ago, some of them are still living, you don’t see them whining about the holocost, they are some of the most successful people on the planet. That is because they went out and did something with their lives instead of worrying about the past.
It is time for people to quit making excuses for their behavior and for us to stop condoning it, it is bad behavior no matter what the reason.
Barrack by association is just as guilty as the so called minister, as my mom used to say “birds of a feather flock together.”

This man and his wife have a lot of underlying anger they need to deal with, he wasn’t raised poor, he went to the finest colleges in the world,he was raised in Hawaii and Indonesia, and he did go to a Muslim school as a child. I would not call the church he is attending now a Christian Church.
I don’t want to hear about how oppressed he is.

He is not dissociating himself from this extremest.
By not distancing himself he is condoning the behavior.

Would you want your children  exposed to this behavior on a regulart basis?

What are they going to grow up thinking ?

I would just as easily vote for a black man as anyone else, but they have to be qualified.
