Moore Haven a tiny town of about 1600 residents is located on the southwest shoreline of Lake Okeechobee.

Moore Haven , a city in Glades Co
unty Florida was established near where Seminole and earlier American Indian tribes had lived for thousands of years.

Located at he junction of the Caloosahatchee Canal and Lake Okeechobee, in it's earlier years it gained the name"Little Chicago" and was a significant boom town.

In 1926 the great Maimi hurricanne struck the town founded by James A. Moore and Anglo-African American. The hurricane devasted the town causing widespred death and destruction. In the process of recovering, the town was hit by a secnd hurricane in 1928. The Okeechobee Hurricane destroyed areas that  had escaped the earlier storm.

As a result , today Moore Haven is a sleepy, small town with little industry. Probably the biggest attraction is the large bridge crossing the Caloosahatchee River.



 These days, it's main source of income is the local officer waiting to nab you for speedin
g through town.
