The site of Ubirr in Arnhem Land, northern Australia, contains one of the most impressive assemblages of Aboriginal rock painting, ranging from 40,000 years ago until the present time . Ubirr is a sacred site to the Aborigine people and should only be accessed after permission is granted by the spirits that surround the area. Failure to gain permission can result in a $5000 fine.
 There are many legends pertaining to Ubirr, Lightning Man and the Rainbow Serpent. According to legend the Rainbow Serpent created Australia during the Dream Time.
