Australia: Aborigines and drugs

Aborigines and Drugs

One of  the sadder aspects of the native aborigine's life is the introduction of drugs and alcohol into their lives. I took this photo while a bunch of children were playing soccer near the Laura River. The river was covered with syringes, there were more drugs in this water bed than in your local Walgreens.
The Aborigines have lost their culture and their way, after living in the outback for thousands of years of living in the Australian outback they have a hard time adapting to modern culture. The Australian government have tried, there are all sorts of programs to help them. However, the government will give them housing and they will sleep outside behind the buildings, because that is what they have done for 40,000 years.
As a result of loosing their purpose and focus, many have turned to drugs and alcohol. The native Australians have many things they could teach us, hopefully their culture won't disappear before modern man learns these valuable lessons.
