Australia: Cooinda, Large Billy Bong

Cooinda, Located in Kakadu, Northern Territory

Cooinda is actually a large billy bong located in Kakadu National Wildlife Park, located near Darwin, Australia. A billy bong is a pool of water or lake that forms during the rainy season, and as the rains end and the dry continues it slowly dries up. Of course, all the local wildlife congregate around it as this is the only water supply for miles. As the water supply gets smaller, the animal population increases, so  by the time the rainy season begins the wildlife population can be quite dense, and hostile. I actually took an early morning pontoon ride on this really large lake , it was fascinating to see the wildlife begin to stir and move around as the sun rose above the horizon. Due to the fact there were several large crocodiles swimming nearby, I didn't have a hard time remembering not to hang anything over the side of the boat that I wanted to keep.
