Koningin Emmabrug ( Floating Bridge)

Pictured above is the City of Willemstad, Curacao with the famed Koningin Emmabrug, or floating bridge stretching across the channel.
The floating pontoon like structure replaced an earlier version,  was constructed in 1939 and spans the main entrance to the port.
The swinging bridge adds a lot of charm to the already unique city. It is a bit unsettling to walk across , as it moves a little.

Highest quality nuts, dried fruit, chocolates, coffees and teas, seeds, and wonderful gifts, at great prices from a third generation family business since 1929.

It opens more than 20 times a day to allow passing ships in and out of the harbor. When it opens the only passage across Annabaai, (Anna Bay) is the local ferry service, pictured above.

There is one other cross channel bridge, a 150 foot high, four lane highway Queen Juliana Bridge, which is located considerably up stream for this location.

Having been settled by Holland, they are into things that float, as the traditional Floating Market is located across from our location, where farmers arrive from South America and pedal their fresh produce and fish directly from their boats.
