Eternal Problem

Young Aborigine Boys

I saw this many time while touring the outback, at this particular site there were hundreds of hypodermic needles floating in the river.

The aborigines have lost their way, not only is their way of life disappearing, but after living in the bush for thousands of years, that way of life is becoming not only impossible but unpopular as well. The problem is that after living for that long in the bush, it is hard for them to adapt to another way of life.

Once example is that instead of sleeping in the free housing supplied by the government, from force of habit, the aborigines will continue to sleep outside on the ground.

The Australian government has tried to help by providing them everything that is needed, but in consequence  the end result has been  they don't need to work.

Not only do they not have the skills for modern day living, there is no motive to improve since everything is given them. The end result is a high rate of drug and alcohol use.

It is a problem that will probably only be solved after several generations have passed and they gradually adapt to a new way of life.
