Laura Campground

Laura campground, Queensland Australia

Our home away from home, this was to be our hotel for the next 4 nights. It turned out to be a great adventure, sleeping under the stars, with the Southern Cross shining brightly in the southern sky.

Live in Australia!!

Barely visible on the right side of the photo is one of the notorious termite mounds that are spotted all over northern Australia.

The days were spent observing a Corrobree, an Aborigine songfest, visiting with the elders, and swimming in the Laura River.

Sleeping in Swags, (canvas sleeping bags) with no tent, drinking beer and telling stories by a campfire, we woke to the sounds of the jungle, birds singing with the rising sun, what a life!

I realized there was a language barrier between us Americans and the Brits, as a young Brit was telling old jokes that I had already heard, but they weren't funny because of the different terminology he used.

All too soon our stay was over, and it was time to make   our way back to Cairns and civilization.

Take a journey back in time,A Modern Day Walkabout!
