Serpent Mound Ohio

Experience A Modern Day Walkabout!!

Atop a plateau overlooking the Brush Creek Valley, located in southern Ohio, just a few miles east of Cincinnati, Serpent Mound is the largest and finest serpent effigy in the United States. Nearly a quarter of a mile long, Serpent Mound apparently represents an uncoiling serpent.

The creation is attributed to the Adena and Fort Ancient Cultures.

The head of the serpent is aligned to the summer solstice sunset and the coils also may point to the winter solstice sunrise and the equinox sunrise. There are also other remarkable lunar alignments coinciding with the coils of the serpent.

The Great Serpent Mound also may have been carefully designed in accord with the placement of many stars in the familiar constellation Draconis (Draco), as well as the appearance of Halley's Comet and other celestial occurrences.

During the Harmonic Convergence the site was visited by thousands of visitors who were celebrating the event.
