Christmas
I remember how Christmas was when I was a kid.
All my grandparents were living, so we celebrated at least three different times.
We would normally start the Christmas season the week-end before, when my aunt, uncle and cousins would travel from Indianapolis so we could have Christmas with my mothers family. They always stayed in Indianapolis on Christmas to celebrate with my uncle's family.
Christmas eve, we would go to church. I always wondered why it took mom so long to get ready for church on Christmas Eve. She would always leave my dad and I out in the cold car. It never dawned on me that she was putting the gifts under the tree as Santa would always have been there when we returned home.
A lot of times both sets of grandparents would come to our house on Christmas Eve, then we would go to my dad's parents house on Christmas Day.
Grandpa was retired ,so he would start wrapping gifts in July, he would wrap up something like a pack of gum using newspaper, tape, glue, string and so on, by the time he ws done the package would be the size of a basketball.
That would always make it seem like we received more than we actually did, it was a lot of fun!
When my great-grandparents were still alive, there would still be more family gatherings and the celebration would cover two week-ends.
